Food Photos and Fail Stories from New Year's Eve

I'm currently working on tracking my food intake again and incorporating workouts into my daily routine. Why? Because I just checked my weight on the scale: I'm now 10 kilos heavier than last year and around 15 kilos heavier than my breastfeeding-peak weight. Ugh!

So now, as I'm depriving myself, please indulge me by joining me in looking at these food photos from New Year's Eve:

The story behind the M&Ms: I just picked it up from the grocery store. Upon arriving home, we discovered that it expires on January 4, 2015 (that was December 30th). So we hurriedly ate everything. When we were down to our last pack, we discovered that the expiration date was actually April 1, 2015. #FAIL

My version of May's No-Bake Choco Banana Cream Pie (recipe from Fully Housewifed)

Above is the uppermost layer, right below the crushed graham topping. By that time, I only had a few banana slices left while the lower layers had banana overload!
All covered up
Not-yet-baked macaroni
Our humble spread

We couldn't find our corkscrew so this happened #FAIL (We did find it the next morning though.)

That's all, folks. Have a great year ahead!

I Cut His Hair and Other Stories

1. I cut his hair.

Yuri's hair is getting too long. In fact, when his friend, Scotty, came to visit, his American dad told me, "Do you like to keep his hair long?" Not at all! But the problem is that I dread cutting his hair. It always turns out to be such a struggle, and our house would sound like a slaughter house - no kidding. That's why his hair is always cut at home with me, my mom, and his yaya. I could never dare to bring him to a proper barber shop for kids for fear na masayang ang pera.

Observe:
Polo from SM, H&M jeans, Pitter Pat sandals

But yesterday, I saw a chance. You see, I'm the one looking after Yuri when he sleeps now. I try to get some work while he sleeps. Yesterday, the connection was lost for maybe 40 minutes, and I had nothing better to do and I spotted a pair of scissors nearby, and you know what happened next.

Snip, snip.
Tah dah!

2. Goodbye, high-chair. Hello, crayons!

Yuri Takes Selfies

One morning, about a month ago, I checked the gallery of our tablet, and I saw this:
I literally laughed out loud when I saw the photo. Yuri just took his first selfie! My mom was looking after Yuri (I think I was taking a bath that time?) and sort of gave him the tablet to play with. My mom was fully unaware that the 21-month old Yuri opened the camera function and, well, took a photo of himself! It's quite obvious naman that the Lola wasn't paying attention, diba? Hahaha!

That wasn't the end of it. Somehow, Yuri got really amused with the idea of seeing himself on screen and freezing it into an actual photo. Thinking from a toddller's point of view, that would really be fun. If I didn't know better, I would think he just loves his face! Here are more selfies of Yuri (some of which include me):
 Mapungay na mga mata shot
 Full body "bomba" shot
 Dreamy shot
  "Show me your tongue" shot
 Happy, toothy shot!
 Shy guy says "hi" shot
Yuri looks like a girl here, don't you think? :P
With Dinda in the background

I barely let Yuri use the tablet (only when I leave him with his Dinda or his Lola), but he's become so proficient in using it. It just proves that kids today are "born" techie! Are your kids like this, too? Do your kids take selfies, too? :-)

PS: Sorry for the quality of the shots. You know how the front-facing cameras of most tablets are! (This is an O+ tablet.)

Home Office Inspiration for Small Spaces

This morning, as I sat down at my desk tucked away in a little corner in my parent's house, I thought about what my "home office" in our future house would look like.

I like this little corner of mine, but because it's in my parents' house, my desk inevitably gets filled with random stuff that are not mine, which include but are not limited to extension wires, chargers, isopropyl alcohol, tissue, and the like. In short, my desk is not as cute and Pinterest-worthy as I hope it could be!

Of course, mere thinking led to more Googling, and here are the photos that caught my fancy:

Little corner in the kitchen:

Cute little girl-alcove (female version of the man-cave?):

Functional shelves against the wall:

Unassuming closet by night, and - surprise! - feminine home office by day:

Shelving units and a portable (at least I think so) desk:

Another version of the alcove (I prefer this because it's more romantic):

And my current ultimate favorite (actually, this has been my favorite peg since last year) - the secretary desk:

Which are your favorites? Do you also have home-office pegs? Do share!

Snapshots of New Year's Eve

Happy New Year! I'm writing this post in bed next to Yuri. I'm on full-out holiday mode today since Yuri's yaya isn't bound to come back until this afternoon or evening. She's been on (unplanned) leave since Saturday afternoon, and it has been a real tiring almost-5 days for me. But let's save that for another post.

Our New Year's Eve didn't begin on a good note. My mom and dad had a little fight and weren't speaking by dinnertime. I thought we wouldn't eat Media Noche anymore, so I changed Yuri into a pajama outfit (I dressed him up for NYE) and went to bed. To cut the long story short, by midnight, my sister came up to tell me we were eating Media Noche, and everything was fine after that. Even Yuri who hates being woken up was in good spirits. Whew!

Without much ado, here are some photos I took of our New Year's Eve:
Our first time to make lasagna: success!
We only bought a little more than a couple of kilos of Lechon Baboy - because highblood. Heehee.
The parentals went to Digos City a day before New Year's Eve and bought a lot of kakanin from Mer's. The suman moron was love!
Due to insistent public demand (from Yuri and my sister), I made mango float again. This time, I topped it with lots and lots of mangoes!
Some of the lechon were made into paksiw. Honestly, I prefer the paksiw over the original lechon. Always!
And some caldereta, as my sister requested.

I wasn't able to take photos of the other foods my mom prepared because it was time for Yuri to take a nap. And when Yuri takes a nap, I take a nap, too. Heehee. Hindi madali maging mom 24/7!
After Yuri woke up from his nap, he resumed playing tirelessly. I had to pull him back for a second to take this pitiful selfie. :D
