Mother's Pasalubong from Baguio Citey!

It's been one week since my mom arrived from her trip in Luzon. However, I put off posting about her pasalubongs because it was not appropriate to write about them during Yolanda's wake. Now that things are looking up, let's post them once and for all!

Strawberries and longgan

Na pinapak ng little boy

Yuri also enjoyed disrupting lola as she arranged the stuff on the bed

For the neighbors: Jars and jars and jars of...

Strawberry jam

Peanut brittle and

Strawberry jam ulit

As well as candies from Baguio and Pangasinan

Yuri's Fashionable Wishlist

Disclaimer: Actually, Yuri has nothing to do with this. It's all his momma's doing.

I've been itching to do a "makeover" on Yuri's "wardrobe." I haven't used his rompers anymore. They're reserved for home use - in other words, pambahay - but I only wear them on Yuri during cooler days. On sunny days, he wears the ever-reliable sando. On some days, he only wears a diaper.

But he cannot be in his birthday suit (plus diaper) when we go out. Malamig kaya, not to mention pagkakaguluhan sya ng mga tao. Charot! Anyway, I know Yuri would have preferred to be naked (haha), but since I'm the intrimiderang nanay, I want to make him - at least - fashionable (in my and tropical Philippines' standard), I want to upgrade naman his wardrobe.

I already started by buying him his first ever skinny jeans and a cute pair of suspenders. Para di masyadong magastos, I promised Job that I will be buying just one piece of apparel per month. Do you want to know what else I plan to buy? Here they are (thus the wishlist):

1. Chambray Shirt from Baby Gap

This is the trend now, and aside from just jumping into the bandwagon, I really think this trend is ageless. Also, I can only imagine how Yuri will look so pogi in chambray!

2. Tights from H&M

I like dressing Yuri in busha pants (see OOTDs here and here) because they're super comfortable, but the designs are limited. Also, I'm not a fan of cartoon characters. I'll probably buy tights in block colors and cute patterns.

3. Tiny Toms in Red (Sooo cute!)

Ugh! If only hindi sya mahal! You might find Toms affordable, pero ako hindi. I have a price limit, although I know I should really buy good-quality shoes for Yuri's developing toddler feet. Calling Job!

4. Colored Jeans in Green from Zara

I am totally in love with colored jeans now! Many say that boys are harder to dress because of the limited clothing styles, and I agree wholeheartedly. However, colored jeans are much cuter on boys than on girls (sorry I'm biased!), and I think these would be the key to creating better outfits.

5. Plaid Double-weave Shirt from Baby Gap

I'm also planning to buy Yuri another plaid polo shirt for two reasons: first, they're timeless like chambray shirts and second, maliit na ang plaid polo ni Yuri.

6. Knitted Hat (aka Beanie) from Zara

I also like how Yuri looks like wearing headpieces. However, his only head-wear now is a baseball cap, which, admittedly, doesn't go with a preppy wardrobe. I think my best bet would be a beanie so that it would be cool-looking and Yuri's head will stay cool - literally.

7. Jeans with Suspenders from H&M (Ugh!)

I have an obsession with suspenders! I just bought one last Sunday, actually, and I want to buy more!!!

8. Appaman Glen Plaid Vest

When I read mom blogs from other countries on how they dress their sons up, I feel jealous because they get to wear cardigans, jackets, etc. I certainly cannot do that in humid Philippines! I think using a vest would be the closest thing I can get to layering.

9. Pull-on Jeans from H&M

Ah, pull-on jeans. I included this not because they are cute (although they are cute!) but because it would be necessary to wear pull-up jeans when we start potty-training, which is in the imminent future. Oh noes.

10. Corduroy Pants in Red from H&M

Another pair of colored jeans! In Christmas colors! I'm hoping I can buy Yuri red jeans before Christmas!
______________________________________

If you're wondering if I plan to really buy all the stuff I listed, well, the answer is a resounding no. First of all, walang Baby Gap, Zara Baby, and H&M sa aDavao City. Second, I like the clothes but I don't like the prices! Actually, the prices are reasonable when you're living in the US, but if you're in the Philippines and converted into pesos na, ayaw ko na haha!

Third, I see these clothes in the department store! Diba? Like the vest. I saw one last Sunday at SM, Crib Couture (I like this brand). And it's very cheap! (When I say cheap, trust me: it is cheap.) In other words, because kuripot ako at kailangang magtipid, I'll be on the lookout for cheaper alternatives to those cool clothes. Marami naman eh. But, hey, if you want to give Yuri a gift, you're welcome to do so! :-P

Chilly Sunday turned Suspenders-Sunday

Happy Tuesday! Can you feel the Amihan wind? Nafi-feel ko na dito sa Davao. While I do enjoy the cool breeze, I would be lying if I said I don't feel a tinge of worry everytime the wind blows more hardly than usual.

But enough of the negative vibes. Let's talk about my favorite day of the week: Sunday! As usual. Haha! For new "readers" and those na napadpad lang (thanks, Google!), I love Sundays because it's the only day of the week when I can go outside the house. #WAHMproblems.

Anyway, another reason is that I love putting together outfits for the little boy. Who says only little girls can be dressed up?

However, last Sunday, I was having trouble dressing Yuri up because my mom gave him a souvenir shirt from Baguio, and Yuri was expected to wear it. Haha okay! Since it was a little chilly that morning, I also got his jacket out para Baguong-Baguio ang dating:

Shirt: souvenir from Baguio City, khaki pants (turned pedal-pushers): NEXT, kicks: Oshkosh B'gosh, jacket: St. Patrick

I know this is not my best work (not even close), but whatever. Need to wear grandma's gift! Which I like, just to make it clear! :-P Here are the details of his "outfit":
The shoes are the ones given to me by the very kind seller of Charles Goodies. Yuri likes it so much that sometimes, he wears them at home. When he saw me bring them outside, umiyak kasi gustong isuot. Fine!

And, of course, here are our obligatory before-leaving-the-house shots:
Cardigan: Hand-me-down from mother, Blouse: Aztec-print zip-front jumpsuit from GMall Department Store, Jeans: Forever 21, Shoes: Crocs, Diaper bag: Carter's

Yes, that blouse is a jumpsuit. I was supposed to wear it alone, but it must have shrunk in the wash kasi ang ikli na! Oh noes!

Here are moooore shots from SM Lanang Premier:
My sister literally shrieked when she saw the Hello Kitty display in the atrium! She's now in a phase where she (finally) appreciates Hello Kitty, and as luck would have it, nagparamdam sa kanya si Hello Kitty!

I was also a fan of Hello Kitty growing up. Virtually everything in my childhood bedroom was Hello Kitty!

Christmas was also in the air in SM Lanang Premier. Kudos to my classmates who belong to SM's marketing team!

Yuri got bored and, well, stuck to the glass walls of Terranova. Real smooth, kid. Real smooth.

You may have noticed that Yuri wasn't wearing his jacket anymore. Well, that's because the weather abruptly changed from chilly to sunny! That left Yuri in a pretty dismal attire. But don't fret because one of my missions that day was to buy Yuri ---- a pair of suspenders!

I've been reading Momster Teacher's blog, and Raviv is quickly becoming my toddler peg for Yuri. Because Job doesn't want me overspending for clothes, my mission is to buy Yuri one piece of clothing at a time, thus the suspenders for this month!

I scoured the department store for one, and a kind and gay (I just have to say it) salesman was really helpful. He showed me few suspenders that were right for Yuri's age (let's talk more about this in my November Finds blog post *wink*), and here it is!
Clockwise from top left: All smiles! What are you looking at? Waddup?! And Back view of the suspenders

Oh diba, ang cute??? Guess how much it costs??? Ah, let's reserve that for the November Finds post bwahahaha! It's just sad that red's the only color left. Oh well. Anyway, here's Yuri in Giligan's:

Anatomy of a Mom with a Toddler

I'm currently writing a post about how our Sunday went, but the photos take forever to load. Well, this should be expected because the post has more than 30 photos. Sorry!

Anyway, to make up for the lack of a post on a Monday morning, here's a "diagram" (emphasis on the quotations marks, please!) of what I look like each time I go outside the house with my little toddler, Yuri:

Actually, marami pang kulang jan, all of which are inside my diaper bag na iniwan ko sa bench. Mabigat kasi. But basically, this is what I look like outside the house.

1. Harness

The harness is a necessity for us because Yuri is a swift mover. This is one reason why I almost never let go of Yuri's house whenever we walk outside. Konting lingon ko lang wala na si Yuri. NKKLK. Anyway, if your toddler is a swift mover, too, or if you simply want to feel secure, do yourself a favor and buy one!

2. Cap

I always bring along Yuri's cap in my diaper bag just in case we have to go out in the sun. Yuri usually likes wearing his cap, but there are also many times when he would just throw it on the floor while running. That's why it's almost always in my hands.

3. Camera

I'm putting together nice photos of Yuri for his album, which remains content-less until now. 'Nuff said.

4. Zip-front Blouses

Even though Yuri rarely nurses from me in public now (he's too distracted to think of breastfeeding!), I still see to it to wear open-fronted blouses (zippers and buttons) just in case.

5. Cardigan

I also almost always wear cardigans just in case the toddler decides to breastfeed. And just in case I forget to bring a breastfeeding cover.

6. Comfiest Shoes

I used to buy any kind of flat shoes I like because I usually have a high-tolerance for pain. Well, tell that to my toddler kid! Yuri runs all day that wearing "any kind of shoes" does not suffice anymore. Thus, the need for a pair of Crocs.

7. Not in photo: Bottle of water, bibs, crackers, book or toy - all of which are inside the diaper bag

How about you? Do you "look" sort of like me when you go out with your toddler?

What Yuri Used for His Eczema

I was checking the "Pending" folder in my "Blog" files (yes, I have folders for different categories, subfolders for the actual entries, and a folder for yet-unpublished blog posts AKA "pending") when I saw one folder that I created over a year ago.

Repeat after me: over a year ago.

The photos were so old that they still contained watermarks of my old Wordpress blog. Ganun ka-luma. Anyway, when Yuri kasi was still a few months old, he had eczema. I think he had it worst when he was around 4-5 months.

Here's the only photo I can find with a flare-up on his face (we don't usually take photos of him when he has a flare-up because alam mo na):

Yuri was still so little and so chubby here! Pero kawawa because that rash on his cheek made him so irritated. And you know what? Mild lang yung case na yan. Maraming times that he got rashes all over his face! :-(

I'm pretty sure eczema doesn't go away, but after using these products, the red rashes on his skin disappeared kaagad. Here are the products Yuri used to cure his eczema:

Our pedia gave us this sample of Cortizan cream, and later on, I bought a bigger tube. This cream works like magic. Every time Yuri has a flare-up, pag nilagyan ko nito, nawawala agad!

Bonus: This cream also works so well as a diaper rash ointment. Yuri rarely has diaper rash, but I had the habit of packing a tube of Cortizan in my diaper bag just in case.

A tube of Cortizan cream costs around P165 for a 5-gram tube.

Our pedia also gave us a sample of Oilatum bar. Come to think of it, almost lahat ng pharmaceutical needs ni Yuri when he was little was given to us by his pedia. Thanks, doc! Anyway, this bar is used when taking a bath. Like Cortizan, Oilatum is also very effective in minimizing rashes. I think it also coats the skin to protect it (don't quote me on that; hindi ako sure).

I never had to buy another bar of Oilatum because hanggang ngayon, hindi pa rin sya nauubos. I don't know if matagal lang talaga sya maubos or ang tipid ko lang gumamit. Haha! Anyway, hindi na kasi bumalik ang flare-ups ni Yuri, so I didn't find a reason to use it.

A bar of Oilatum costs around P350 for a 100-gram bar.

See, yung old blog ko pa ang naka-watermark? Obviously, I have never gotten around to blogging about these products, but I think blogging about it now (after 15 months!) will still be a great help to those with babies with eczema.

Plus usually, I would just bathe Yuri in warm water plus a bar of Oilatum. However, occasionally, I would also use Lactacyd Baby Bath (he was 4-5 months old pa ha) para may bango naman ng konti. Back then, I would refrain from using Johnson's products because they make him flare up, pero ngayon, we're using Johnson's baby bath na.

If your baby has eczema, don't fret because there are a lot of products you can use to treat it (or, at least, make the rashes disappear). I don't have any idea of organic products you can use because I wasn't a big organic buff last year. Also, you should always seek your pediatrician's opinion first in case hindi naman talaga eczema yan; there are a lot of reasons why babies should have rashes, so research muna!

PS: I think eczema runs on our side of the family because (one) I had rashes on my arms for as long as I remember and (two) Maricel Laxa-Pangilinan endorses Elica, saying that her daughter has eczema rin.
