I love you, Sabado!

I love you, Sabado! Do you remember that classic Jollibee commercial? That commercial was one of my favorites, along with Serena Dalrymple's Isa pang Chickenjoy! Ah, the days of my childhood. Chos.

Speaking of childhood, we went to the playground this morning! Because Yuri woke up extra early (a little before 6), I decided to wake my sister up in the next room so that we could walk around the village. I've always loved walking, but since Yuri came, I never had the time na. Sure, I would walk Yuri, but only around the area near our house. It's been a long time since I really walked around the village.

So we dressed up and headed to the outside world. After spraying Giga insect repellent of course. We planned to take photos along the way, but we forgot to bring my camera by the time we stepped out the door. I had to use my phone's camera, so sorry for the quality!

Before reaching the playground, we saw an entire flock of birds sitting on one street. As in extended family sila. Super dami. Unfortunately, we got so caught up playing with them that I forgot to take a photo. :-(

Anyway, here we are finally at the playground!

Nobody else was in the playground kanina. I guess everyone was sleeping in.

The grass was so wet! I didn't know if it rained last night or not. But the ground is wet. Worse, the maintenance man must have mowed the playground yesterday because there were a lot of bits of grass which stuck to our feet!

My classmates in UP and I used to sit inside that gazebo, swapping chismis when we were supposed to do a project or something. And promptly disturbed the neighbors.

My sister on the seesaw-like machine (what do you call this) all in her lonesome. Hehe.

And look at those shorts! I was so dirty! At bakit? Alamin!

Here's the reason! Every now and then, Yuri would climb up on me, leaving mud and grass on everywhere his shoes touched.

On the way home, my sister paused to smell the flowers. And pick a couple of them.

Ah, cement at last. I love you, Mother Nature, but even I can't handle wet, cut grass.

Home sweet home! Sorry for the wet floor; Honey had been watering the plants. I was getting hungry, and it was a good thing that Mama prepared a lot of toasted tuna sandwiches while Papa made Swiss Miss. Yay!

I just love our neighborhood. Despite some of the troublemaking and low-life neighbors, it still remains to be picturesque and nice.

On the other hand, I am excited to visit the Off-Price Show tomorrow in my beloved SM Lanang. Woot, here I come! Since it's the last day of sale, I know that what we'll see is yung mga pinagpilian na. It's fine because I don't have anything specific to buy, so it's just mindless looking! Hopefully!

Oi, you can't print this. I think this has a specific barcode or something. Go register na! Libre naman eh.

PS: My blog turns 1 tomorrow! Sorry, I haven't prepared any giveaways. Maybe next time, when I actually get on the top 100 blogs. Haha!

The first time I gave someone flowers

...was just last week. Remember this post about my former dormmate in UP, Hazel? Her mother recently and unexpectedly died due to lung cancer. Even though I'm sure she understands it, I feel guilty because I've never gone to her mother's wake and even to the burial.

To make up for it, I wanted to send her flowers. Not to send a message of condolence because the flowers are not to remind her of the pain. I've no doubt about it; in fact, she's handled the ordeal so strongly. Wala lang, I just want to tell her that I care and that she can call me whenever she needs me.

Together with my partners in crime, Teena and George, I was finally able to send her roses last Monday. Actually, I placed the order last Friday, and they arrived at her home just this Monday. I'm pleased to know that they made her smile (and even laugh!). Hahaha! Here's the photo from Hazel's Instagram:

We used the acronym, MGT, so that it sounds like management. Hehehe. Anyway, we were pleased with how the flowers looked like. It wasn't until yesterday when I noticed something might be missing.

You see, along with the flowers, we also ordered a small teddy bear. Where is it? I think Hazel would've included it in the photo if the teddy bear was there. So I asked her. She told me na walang teddy bear sa package. Uh-oh. I reviewed my receipt to make sure I ordered the teddy bear:

Obviously, we did pay for a teddy bear! Where is it? We ordered from Island Rose, and I immediately contacted them of this problem. Hello, kahit na P250 lang yun, we still ordered it no! More importantly, Hazel should have received the bear. Our reasoning was nalalanta yung flowers eh, at least the bear would be a long-lasting remembrance. Pero nasaan?

I received a reply yesterday. The CSR said that mini lang naman yun, and it was in the box. Miss, the size of the bear is not the problem. Wala nga eh. I verified this through Hazel, and wala daw talaga. I sent another email today:

Hi, I followed up with my recipient and here's what she said:
"ako jud mismo nag-open sa box while nagatan.aw c auntie. It's the flowers lang jud, then sa flowers may card na nakaipit, Yun lang."
If you don't understand Bisaya, that means she herself opened the box and there were only flowers inside with the card. That's it. There's something wrong with your system, miss. Please fix this because I did pay for that teddy bear.

Davao Mommy is featured in Mommy HotSpot!

My blog is little and mostly talks about mundane stuff in my life, but I'm pleased to see that I actually have readers. The last time I checked, there were 5. Haha! Just kidding. Anyway, this takes a little time getting used to, knowing that people know what's happening in my life. My life isn't even that interesting! #modesty

However, what I didn't expect was to get featured in a widely-read, US-based parenting website, Mommy Hot Spot. I absolutely did not expect it. I literally had no idea!

I just checked my email this morning and, poof, it became Koko Krunch!

To say I'm happy is an understatement. It's a huge honor for me for my little blog to get this kind of recognition. I also felt a little flattered with what is written in the article itself. Why shouldn't I be flattered? It's not everyday that someone gets to write about me. I'm used to writing about other people, not the other way around.

Life in the Philippines

Through reading her blog, we can plainly see that life in the Philippines isn’t so different from the U.S. after all. While her environment is different, she still discusses topics that every mom around the world can relate to. She discusses online and in-store deals that she finds, DIY craft tutorials, product reviews, and the odds and ends in between.

So, what now? I know I sound OA, but being in this position pressures me to deliver blogposts of higher quality. What should a good mommy blogger do? On the other hand, I want to keep this casual, mundane blogging voice. After all, this voice is what got this blog recognized.

Kaya magta-Tagalog pa rin ako! Heck, I'll write in Bisaya kung pwede lang! :-)

Yuri-isms: Houston, We Have A Problem

I'm proud that Yuri can consistently speak a list of words already. I mentioned here, in fact, that Yuri's first word is "car" or "taw."

Yaya Woes: 

Now, some smart aleck taught Yuri "taxi." There are a few taxis that pass our street, especially in the afternoon. Yuri used to point at them and saw "taw." This smart aleck had the smart idea to say, "No, Yuri, taxi." Wut?

Suffice to say, Yuri got confused. Of course, he'll get confused. He's just 17 months old. Taxis and cars look exactly the same! How can he know which is the regular "taw" and which are "si" (taxi)?

Worse, Yuri now refuses to say "taw." Every car he sees he now calls a taxi or "si"! Oh noes! Lagot ka sa aking yaya ka! I'm spending time now correcting this error para hindi na lumaki ang damage. Ano daw?

On a lighter note:

Yuri has more words in his list now, and they are more meaningful! Chos! He now has a "mama" in his vocabulary, although I'm pretty sure it doesn't pertain to me. Boo! Funnily, I think Yuri says "mama" to refer to his lolo! Hahaha!

Here are the other new words in his list:

ta - cat
tis - cheese
wa - Wow!
tata - chacha (sorry)
do - dog
du - duck
shi - sheep
sawa - sarap
mmmm - not a word, but he always says this when eating hehe
dow - go!
dahti - dirty

And grudgingly,

si - taxi

That's all I remember for now. Aside from mundane words, he also developed two meaningful phrases. These are titu (thank you) and sowi (sorry). Amazingly, he can use them in the proper context:

1. When you give Yuri something, he will say titu! He also says this when he gives you something and you don't say thank you. Hahaha! A warm round of applause for my 17-month old etiquette police!

2. I always say "sorry" whenever I accidentally hit Yuri or spill his water or something like that. I guess Yuri latched on to the habit easily. Whenever he hits me accidentally or spill his food and drink, he also says, "sowi"! The funny thing is that when he accidentally hits himself, he also says, "sowi"!

Yuri the Meat Eater

I have recently started Yuri on his meats. I know that's a bit too late, but I decided not to give him tough meats until his 18th month. Before, I only gave him pork and chicken liver and, occassionally, chicken. Now, I gave him pork. 

I thought he won't like it, but to my surprise, he set the rice aside and only ate meat! OMG. Anak ka nga ng tatay mo. Both of us don't eat much rice but are avid meat eaters. It runs in the blood?

Yuri the Maarte:

One of the words in the list above is "dahti" or dirty. When Yuri sees a spot on our tiled floor, he stops running, points to the spot, and says "dahti"! He is also careful not to step on the spot (or dirt).

One morning, the yaya took him outside the house, just in our yard (yard pertains to the narrow strip of red-cemented area outside the house). Earlier before that, the yaya watered our plants so obviously, basa ang sahig. Yuri refused to take one step on it. He clung to his yaya and pointed to the floor and said:

Dahti!!!

Nakakaloka. Houston, we have a problem.

New Sample Room Loot

It has been months since I've ordered something from Sample Room! To be honest, I abstained from ordering because nothing has really sparked my interest. I'm not much of a fan of makeup because I have nothing to wear them to. I can live on my Maybelline compact and Carmex lip balm. I'm more interested in "health" stuff, such as my C-Lium samples, but there's none in the recent months.

Until this month. Two weeks ago, I checked the website and saw that they are offering CarbTrim samples. Perfect for the construction worker in me! However, the samples were quickly sold out.

I checked the website again last week and, to my delight, I saw that the CarbTrim samples have been restocked! Yay!

Before the samples get sold out again, I quickly filled my cart with it and two more samples. Para sulit ang shipping fee. Haha! Anyway, here are what I got:

They were offering two boxes per order of CarbTrim. That means for the next two months, I should bring one when I eat outside. Challenge accepted! Aside from CarbTrim, I also got a sample of OraCare mouthwash and Zenutrients "healing" oil. Nothing interesting, to be honest. I just needed to add something to my cart for the coveted CarbTrim haha.

I also noticed that the bottles came in individual bubble wraps. There were none in all my old orders from Sample Room. Asenso? Chos. Joke lang. Peace.

I gave the mouthwash to my dad, who's a dental health buff. I'm keeping all the others. I think I can keep the Zenutrients oil in my purse for emergency. After all, it says in the SR website that it is used to "soothe away headaches, dizziness, coughs & colds." Hmmm, we'll see. As for the CarbTrim, they're all mine! I'm so excited to try 'em! :-)
