I was up until midnight last night because my baby was busy doing its (I don't know yet if it's a he or a she) thing inside my tummy. Good thing it's a holiday today (it's also mom's birthday!) or else someone would be late for her 8am shift.
Actually, the bean's movements weren't that hard that I wasn't able to sleep. But it's so weird; I just laid there with my hand on my tummy and giggled when it moved. I found it weird that my tummy was also moving along with the baby. I also found it weird that my tummy is bigger on its right side. I guess I'm too fond of observing my stomach nowadays. I need to get a life.
Anyway, last night, I was thinking of the things I would miss about being pregnant. Sure it's hard, but with the right perspective, it's actually quite fun. Of course, I can't say the same thing for my first trimester, but I'm nearing the end of my second trimester and quite frankly, I'm enjoying my preggy status. Here are the things I would certainly miss about being pregnant:
1. The special attention
I think it's only proper to give pregnant ladies special attention. It's not easy being a human incubator, y'know. I, for one, bask in this attention. I get it from my boyfriend (dapat lang!), my friends, my office mates, my family, even though it took time for me to get used to the attention. I didn't (still don't) want to be treated as if I'm fragile, but when it means getting of the hook in doing errands, why not? LOL.
2. The food (hehe)
This I would really miss. I'm conscious of what I eat, but that doesn't limit my food intake. When there's food on the table, people would always insist that I get food for myself first, or help myself to another serving, or help myself to the last morsel. When you're pregnant, you won't get ugly looks when you're going for seconds at a buffet table. Everybody insists you should eat more for baby!
3. The "glowing" remarks
I would sometimes get comments that I look "blooming" - that's an expression commonly used in the Philippines to refer to someone who looks radiant. I don't know; I think I look the same. In fact, I think I look more stressed than ever, with these pimples popping all over my face. I never get pimples *insert sad face.* However, I did a research and found out that most pregnant women look radiant because of the hormones. That must be it.
4. The excuse to buy new clothes and shoes
Now I would definitely miss this. A growing tummy and feet in danger of swelling? 'Nuff said.
5. The anticipation
Reading about pregnancy and babies is addictive. You should try it. No, seriously, I think a part of me is nervous that I'm never going to be the greatest mom in the world (gasp!). Another part of me is excited to finally be able to hold this super likot bean inside me in my arms. I'm happy I was able to experience taking care of a newborn when my sister was born, but that doesn't stop me from spending hours on the internet just "preparing" for the arrival of the little one. :)
