Help! Home Remedies for Cold Please?

Today is Friday and I'm supposed to have written a post enticing you to make wiser personal finance decisions. In my defense, I already have a draft written weeks ago, just awaiting completion.

However, I was feeling so tired last night that I just couldn't bring myself to completing it.

I wasn't even able to exercise properly, save for around 15 minutes of running. After that, my body couldn't take anymore stress.

Buntis? Charot.

You see, I've been battling what I thought was a common cold for two weeks now. It never progressed because I fought it with fruit smoothies and liters of water. I was able to get through the past two weeks smoothly (and healthily, too).

However, this week, my cold returned and was worse. I have very itchy sinuses and itchy and watery eyes and a sore throat. I'm thinking maybe this is allergic rhinitis. I've never had this before and I'm actually placing my suspicion on the mice that suddenly invaded our home.

So, yes, I've been feeling under the weather. Water and fruit smoothies didn't seem to be enough, but I don't want to take any medication.

Worse, nahawa pa si Yuri. The other day, he developed a cold, too, and just yesterday, he started coughing. I'm praying that his is only a common cold and not as bad as mine.
I want to use home remedies for Yuri, but the elders are persistent in making him take medicine, so I'm giving him little amounts of it. He has been drinking smoothies, too. What else should I do?

Here are my friends when it comes to these situations:
Boogie Wipes to wipe mucus away
Zenutrients Natural Therapy Oil for decongestion. (Last night, I placed some on his feet and covered them with socks. This morning, the socks were all over the bed. Mmmkay.)
Rice powder to avoid irritation (Cologne not included - of course)
Lotsa lotsa water and fluids
Smoothies

What else should I do, mommies, daddies, and non-parentals? This is not the first time Yuri's sick, but I want him to be healed in record-breaking time! (I claim it, Jesus!)

By the way, I'm also thinking of making nasal spray to flush my sinuses. But I can't do that with Yuri. He'll surely hate it and would not stay still. So again, what else do you think I should do?

Yuri Brushes His Own Teeth! (A Review of Tiny Buds Chew Brush)

I have a confession to make: Months ago, I can't, for the life of me, get Yuri to brush his teeth without ensuing war.

I'm serious.

Yuri's not the type of baby to just lay down on bed while you do clean his face, ears, nose, etc. This includes his mouth. All our tooth-brushing sessions end up with tears and screams!

I couldn't bare that anymore, so I started looking for a baby toothbrush that he can use himself. That way, I don't need to "force" myself to touch his teeth, he can develop brushing habits, and he can - I hope - have fun doing it.

I thought that was a futile search until I discovered Tiny Buds' Chew Brush in Lazada. Honestly, I don't know how it looks like (the photo shows just the box), but it piqued my curiosity. I thought it would be like a hybrid of a baby toothbrush and a teether? That visual sounded promising, so I immediately ordered one. Of course, it came with a Tooth Gel, which I'm willing to try. (That was the first time we used baby toothpaste. We used to brush only with water).

So now, here are our daily (or should I say, nightly) assistants in dental hygiene:

Tiny Buds Tooth Gel, Tiny Fangs Tooth Gel, Tiny Buds Chew Brush

Mug of Absolute water, Tiny Buds Chew Brush, and Tiny Buds Tiny Fangs Tooth Gel Stage 1

Here's the closeup photo of the Chew Brush:

Tiny Buds Chew Brush

As you can see, the entire thing is silicon, which means baby can chew on any part of it. Now, if you look closely, you can see tiny bristles in its head. They're all very soft, but I guess they do well in cleaning baby's little milk teeth. That happens when baby chews on the bristles.

Now, for the test. I put a little (pea-sized) amount of the Tooth Gel on the Chew Brush. I gingerly handed it to Yuri, who seemed to not know what to do with it. I took it and placed it in his mouth and gently rubbed the brush on his teeth. Unlike his old tooth brush, he did not seem to react to this. Great start!

After the first day, he did not let me brush his teeth anymore. Mukhang alam na nya anong dapat gawin. Yuri grabbed the brush, placed it inside his mouth, and rubbed it on his teeth. Yay! The best thing is that he enjoys brushing his teeth na. He doesn't want the session to end!

Sorry for the ensuing barrage of photos. I enjoyed watching my son brush his teeth and got, well, a little carried away. :-)

Even if you don't have a problematic tooth-brusher like mine, I still highly recommend the Tiny Buds Chew Brush. It does not only make tooth-brushing fun and hassle-free but also promote independence in our little learners. Or so I hope! :-P

As for the toothpaste, Tiny Fangs, it is okay, too. It's quite sweet and tastes like strawberry, which is my chosen flavor. Actually, the flavor is Strawberry Banana, so there must also be a hint of banana somewhere. How should I know? I don't use it hehe. What I like about it is that it's free of most chemicals. However, it's still the Chew Brush that I'm raving about! :-)

August Buys

I'm baaaaack!!!
*kru kru kru*

Hehehe. Okay lang walang nakamiss sa akin, but I miss blogging badly! Ngayon lang ako naka-open ng Blogger promise. Like what I've said before, down ang PLDT DSL connection namin since... Wednesday? It was completely down for two days. Then, bumalik sya kahapon, which was Friday. Unfortunately, the connection was still too slow that I could not open Blogger and a lot of blog sites.

What's up, PLDT?

But di bale, my Blogger dashboard is finally open! I can blog na! Yay! Let's begin with the good buys I have discovered this month of August. This has been sitting on my drafts for so long, but now I can finally blog about it. And, oh my goodness, September na bukas! #digress

Okay, so back to the finds I've had this month. You know that the grocery is my happy place, so I'm always thrilled to look for new items that catch my fancy. However, I'm not always in the grocery so I turn to the next greatest thing since sliced bread: online shopping. Here are my online shopping finds for the month:

Gyro "No-Spill" Bowl

We finally have one no-spill Gyro bowl! I've wanted this since I've watched a video demonstrating its awesomeness. However, I didn't know where to buy one. Good thing my secret store (email me if you want the link) had it at a low price! I didn't waste my time and ordered one for Yuri - who likes to mess around with his food, frankly.

And yes, mommies, it works! Of course, don't put naman sabaw inside the bowl. That will surely spill naman. I'll be writing a review of this bowl soon!

Price: Only P100! Steal!

Tiny Buds "Hygiene Set"

Disclaimer: There is no Tiny Buds "Hygiene Set." It's just a moniker I came up with, okay? Don't ask Tiny Buds for the Hygiene Set because there's none, hehe.

So anyway, a couple of times this month, Yuri had cough and cold. I was hesitant to continue using his regular baby powder, so I decided to buy rice powder from Tiny Buds. At the same time, I was also wanted to try the Tiny Buds chew brush (image below) because Yuri did not like his old, regular baby tooth brush. I did not see the chew brush in any department store in the city. It seems like only Lazada carries it, packaged with the Tooth Gel, which was fine with me.

I ordered all of these from Lazada, along with a powerbank. To get free shipping, I needed to add more to my order to reach P1000. So I threw in the Tiny Buds Baby Bath.

Prices:
Tooth Gel and Chew Brush - Around P165
Baby Bath - Around P150 or P160
Rice Powder - P99 each

Kid Keeper Safety Harness

And finally, another necessity of ours, a toddler harness. This is also from my secret store, also sold at a lot cheaper price than in department stores. Same brand ha, take note. Before, I used to criticize moms who would keep their toddlers on a "leash." Mga anak nila, mukhang aso. Hahahaha. However, when Yuri became a very active toddler himself, I keep on losing him in the mall. Nakakakaba. So I got the leash harness, and thankfully, Yuri's fine with it!

Price: Another steal at only P200!

PS: Don't pass on judgment to others because you might end up doing the same thing din!

What about you? What were your good finds for the last month?

Lapit na Christmas! Aaaah!
